HomeWho We Are

Experience. Education. Advocacy.

Established in 1961, North Carolina Senior Living Association is the oldest assisted living association in the state with a membership of adult and family care homes that are licensed assisted living facilities in North Carolina. We have been providing advocacy, support and education for the assisted living industry for over 50 years. We are a 501(c)6 business association and the Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

NCSLA's goal is to provide effective leadership and assistance to its members by addressing relevant issues and challenges within the industry.  NCSLA unites owners, operators, managers & employers of assisted living homes with a focus on promoting high standards of care for the aging and disabled citizens of NC, while also fostering partnerships with organizations and individuals who provide goods and services for the industry.  Our goal is to advance the knowledge of the profession by offering continuing education and advancing the standards in assisted living homes by working cooperatively with public & private agencies, state agencies, lawmakers and other professionals to ensure that quality of life for the residents of assisted living homes is preserved.

Our goals and objectives are:

  • To promote and support the mission of North Carolina Senior Living Association.
  • To promote and support the concept of assisted living in North Carolina as a cost-effective alternative for seniors who prefer a community that can better meet their needs than the highly clinical environment you typically find in a skilled nursing facility.
  • To assure a mechanism of representatives for assisted living residents and providers with agencies and governing bodies that establish law, regulations and policies that effect their lives.
  • To promote through such laws, regulations and policies a higher quality of life that recognizes the fundamental rights of all assisted living residents to be independent, to have choices, to be provided with personalized care and to share in their own risk as much as their capacity allows.
  • To prevent discrimination in availability of community resources to residents of senior living homes.
  • To promote and support a regulatory context that is based on outcome measures for residents rather than a structural aspect.
  • To assure that assisted living providers are treated fair and reasonable with a balance of appropriate incentives as well as punitive measures.
  • To assist individual members in solving problems which better enables them to deliver quality services to residents.
  • To work with the Governor, the General Assembly, the Department of Human Resources, and other state staff and agencies to ensure social and economic programs that have equitable and fair reimbursement for the quality and level of services being provided to residents.
  • To target the public and various other groups or individuals who have a role in monitoring, enforcement, advocacy, and policy making for the purpose of education, support, assistance and encouragement.
  • To conduct studies and assist with gathering data to support a meaningful database to be used for initiatives and problem-solving.
  • To be knowledgeable and aware of trends from the national level and other states that effect the industry.
